Game compatibility mode

Separate game-specific settings from general system configuration to reduce cross-game conflicts. Compatibility mode manages an identified scope of settings; it is not a guarantee that every game will work.

Mechanisms and technical considerations

Configuration scope

A GPU or system adjustment appropriate for one game may be unsuitable for another. Identify the target and affected settings before deciding to switch; not every failure is a compatibility-mode issue.

Controlled state transitions

Switching may pause, restore or reapply particular items. Follow the reported outcome. Disabling the mode only reapplies the changes it actually paused, not every available optimization.

When changes take effect

Running games or drivers may retain earlier state. For changes such as restoring a GPU name, complete the required restart before validation instead of repeatedly toggling the mode.

Validation method

  1. Record the affected game, symptom and recent changes, then inspect the mode’s actual scope.
  2. Close affected applications, perform one deliberate switch and inspect outcomes and restart requirements.
  3. Repeat the original scenario in the target game. If the issue persists, investigate drivers, game files and other independent factors.
